I am pleased to announce the return of One Album in 120 Seconds, a website that I created last year. Here is what I wrote, when the site launched in August 2008:
As a music fan, I find myself reading about music a lot, but I also constantly find myself frustrated with the music writing that I read. Most music reviewers these days tend to either rely too much on history, or bring too much of themselves into their review. Rarely is an album review just about the music.
I created One Album in 120 Seconds as a response to these overly stylized reviews that spend more time connecting the dots than discussing the music itself. By condensing an album into two minutes and presenting track-by-track ‘quotes’, my goal is to provide an easily digested and accurate synapses of a work that both excites people who are familiar with the record, but also entices those who are new.
The newest review is of William Parker’s 2002 album Raining on the Moon. Head below the fold to listen to an entire cut from this record.
