SCRIPT

Welcome to the innaguaral edition of Knock Twice Radio. A weekly radio show brought to you by Knock Twice dot com.

I am Bryan and I am your host.

For today’s show I am realize my dream to being a Soul DJ.

Cutting to the chase, let us start with a gem from 1940. The Ink Spots.

BREAK 1

You are listening to Knock Twice Radio.

You just heard Sam Cooke with his 1960 ‘Sad Mood.’ and Before that the Ink Spots with ‘Java Jive’

These two songs hint at the thematic arc i will be exploring in today’s Soul and R&B show. Keep youur ears open for songs about love, loneliness, heartbreak, and food.

We continue with the Reverand Al Greeen. ‘I’ve Never Found a Girl.’

BREAK 2

Arethra Franklin there with ‘Don’t Let Me Lose This Dream’ from her 1967 album’I Never Loved a Man the Way I love You.’

Also from 1967 you heard ‘My Inspiration’, from the Mad Lads in Memphis, Tennessee.

I started off that set with Al Green ‘I’ve Never Found a Girl (Who Love me Like You Do)’. You can find that song on Al’s 1972 record ‘Let’s Stay Together.’

Its now time to drop the needle on some Booker T. and MG’s. This is Knock Twice Radio.

BREAK 3

That was Ray Charles with’No Letter Today.’ Charles was the first to uncover the common ground between Country Music and soul. You can here his efforts on a pair of 1962 LPs, ‘Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music, volumes 1 and 2′

Before that James Brown was grooving to ‘Your Cheating Heart.’Another country tune, this one by the great hank williams, was recorded in 1969 for Brown’s ‘Soul on Top’ record.

Booker T and the Mgs got us started with ‘Over Easy’ from 1968’s Soul Limbo.

Carla Thomas takes forward.

BREAK 4

Wendy Rene there evoking the sounds, sights, and smells of summer with her 1964 single, ‘Bar-B-Q’

Jr. Walker & the Allstars before that with a fierce saxaphone on ‘Shotgun’ from 1965.

‘Something Good (Is Going to Happen to You)’ started off that set. Carla Thomas performed that song, penned by fellow Stax Records mate, Issac Hayes, on her 1969 album “The Queen Alone”

To finish today’s show I have a double serving of male vocal powerhouses. First we’ll hear Otis Redding, from 1964 with ‘Security’.

After that I am excited to play the William Bell tune, ‘Everyday Will be like a Holiday’ from 1967.

I had never heard of Bell till i started researching this show, and his voice was definately my most exciting find.

Thank you for listening and tune back next Sunday for guest host Carl and a new episode of Knock Twice Radio.
